For the 9th year Walker Farm will be offering a fall/winter CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) food plan that can extend your enjoyment of fresh local organic produce for an extra 6 weeks after the farmstand closes on Thanksgiving.
This year we are offering two options. If you would just like to receive Walker Farm produce, the share price will be $240 for 6 weekly pickups. Each weekly share will contain at least $40 worth of Walker Farm produce. The second option will include $40 of Walker Farm produce plus one loaf of Benny Bread (rotating between walnut, white and multigrain) and one specialty item frozen such as Grafton cheese, Glabach’s maple syrup or honey from Walker Farm bees. The cost will be $300. Various apples from Green mountain orchard will be available for optional purchase each week at the farmstand PLUS we hope to have locally raised chicken and pork from the new farmers at the Bunker Farm! Weekly pickup will be on Saturdays at the Walker Farm stand between 11 AM and 3 PM. Please try to have a neighbor or friend pick up if you are out of town. If you are on vacation, donating the week to a friend, relative or the Vermont Food Bank makes a nice gift. We can supply a receipt from the Drop-In-Center for your tax deductible donation.
The produce might include spinach, broccoli, lettuce, mesclun mix, leeks, parsley, cilantro, arugula, chard, winter squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, radishes, beets, turnips, carrots, cabbage, shallots, garlic, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, kale, and more. This year we are having an excellent fall harvest. Our onion crop is the biggest ever and we’re excited about a new variety of sweet potato that claims to be sweeter than any variety we’ve grown in the past. Of course there’s a lot of autumn to go and with the roller coaster weather ride we’ve been experiencing all summer, you never can be too sure what crops will do well and which ones will falter.
We will be selecting produce for the weekly shares from fresh crops overwintered in greenhouses and harvested crops stored in our coolers. Our ninth year of winter CSA will remain at 140 shares offered on a “first come, first serve” basis. Last year the shares sold out pretty darn quick and we had over 30 people on the waiting list.
An initial deposit of $50 will save your spot. The balance of the payment should be made in full by October 17, 2016. Last year many people thought it wise to “share a share” with friends. We’re happy to make substitutions for vegetarians and we will again have the “swap table”. We hope you join our CSA this year and we promise you the finest selection of fresh and tasty organic produce available in the season.

1 lb fresh spinach, 3 lbs Copra yellow onions, 2 lbs carrots, 1 bunch radish, ½ lb arugula, 3 lbs German Butterball potatoes, 1 Butternut winter squash, 2 heads lettuce, 1 bunch Rainbow chard, 1 head green cabbage, 1 lb beets, 1 loaf Benny Bread, ½ lb Grafton cheddar.
